OUR STORY
An Old Cape House.
A New Chapter.
On historic Route 6A on Cape Cod, the 1778 House is beginning its next chapter. We're restoring its rooms, uncovering the beauty of its wide pine floors, and making thoughtful updates that let the character of the house lead the way.
A Look at What’s Ahead
Currently under renovation · Planned stays beginning in 2027
We’re thoughtfully restoring the 1778 House for families and friends who want to gather, spread out, and settle into Cape Cod life. On historic Route 6A, we’re creating a home full of old Cape character and modern comforts, with generous outdoor space and a convenient starting point for exploring.
Room to Rest
Two primary bedrooms, one on each floor, plus an additional downstairs bedroom and two more upstairs. We’re planning a mix of larger beds and twins, with the final sleeping arrangements to come.
Two Full Bathrooms
One upstairs and one downstairs, making it easier for several generations to share the house.
Together Time & Quiet Corners
A gathering space off the kitchen and separate places to relax—room for shared meals, grown-up conversation, and the kids’ own afternoon adventures.
Space to Play
A spacious yard for running, lawn games, and slow afternoons outside. We’re planning hydrangea-filled gardens and inviting spots to gather, linger, and take a family photo.
Your Cape Cod Starting Point
Explore historic villages, local shops, and beaches along Cape Cod Bay and Nantucket Sound, with convenient access to Route 6 for adventures farther afield.
The Finishing Touches
We’re working through the details that make a family stay easier, from games at home to gear for days out. We’ll share the full amenity list as the house comes together.
Room for Every Generation
We came to Cape Cod from somewhere else, but it’s where we’ve raised our children and made our home. We still appreciate the things that first drew us here—the old houses, familiar village roads, and feeling that life can slow down a little. We’re bringing that feeling to the 1778 House.
We’re creating a place to gather your siblings, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren under one roof. With two primary suites, plenty of beds, spaces to spend time together or spread out, and a spacious yard framed by hydrangeas, there will be room for everyone. A classic Cape Cod home, thoughtfully restored for modern comfort—where a day spent playing outside, sharing meals, and simply being together can feel like everything you came for.
Meet Katie & Andrew
A life built together, one home at a time.
Our story began nearly 25 years ago, as a young couple with young children, renovating houses and making each one home. Some years, we moved almost annually—raising our family, building a life together, and eventually putting down roots in West Barnstable.
Through Whalebone Building, Andrew brings an artist’s eye and a craftsman’s patience to his work, finding beauty in old materials and believing in doing things well and keeping his word. Katie’s path has taken her from driving a school bus to teaching, art, and creating Cape Cod Chokers, while always helping behind the scenes with the books and design.
Along the way, the people working beside us have become family. Some have been with us for more than 20 years, sharing our care for the work and for one another.
West Parish Company and the 1778 House bring these chapters together. We’re restoring this old Cape home with love for its history and a vision for its next chapter: a welcoming place for families to gather, settle in, and make memories of their own.
